Frequently Asked Questions Regarding Our Online, Commercial Flower Programs

Are the Online Courses Certified?

Yes, each program receives a Kay's Flower School Certificate.  In order to obtain your certificate, you will be required to submit photographic evidence of certificate floral designs from the training program.

How will I get the flowers and materials to make the floral designs for certification?

We will  supply you with all the flowers and sundries you will need to complete the designs required for your certificate.  This is all included in your course fees.  

NOTE- Your Fresh Flower Delivery arrives 10 days into your program on a Friday Night / Saturday Morning

What do I need to buy once I sign up for this course

The only thing you will need to buy to complete our  certificate programs are  10 Buckets or Large Vases (we will supply you with links to buy these wholesale when you get into your bloom room)   Everything else is included in your sundry pack and with your flower delivery.

I have a very busy household, Do I need to a lot the same time every day in order to complete this course?

No, you will have 4 weeks in total to complete an online Program.  You can log in and watch your pre-recorded tutorials at your leisure. Once your flowers arrive you can make your designs at any time that suits you, if you have any problems whilst making them you have access to your bloom room and your tutors Monday to Friday from am to 3.30pm each day.  

Do I need to a computer to complete this course?

You can  watch any of the pre-recorded Tutorials on a tablet, ipad, laptop, phone etc.  This is what makes this course so accessible as you can watch it anywhere at your leisure.  You will need access to wifi.

  • Your Bloom Room is a Private Virtual Interactive Classroom that is only accessible to those also booked on your program with you. This is a Private group on Facebook. Janette & Deirdre are available to you from 9.30 am to 3.30pm Monday to Friday. It is in this group that you can post any questions for Janette to answer, you can post photos of your designs to be critiqued, you can chat and learn from your fellow trainee florists. Every one in this group will all be at the same level, so you will find you will each have similar issues and questions. Access to your Bloom Room will be for 4 weeks.

  • Yes, during the 4 weeks of the program you have 1-2-1 access through What's App to your tutor between 9.30 and 3.30pm Monday to Friday. You can message an y questions, photos, concerns etc and just ask advice through this service.

  • Yes, you will need to have a Facebook profile in order to access your Bloom Room. If you do not have a Facebook profile you will need to make one. If you need help with this let us know.

  • Your Video tutorials will have a step by step video on how to open your flower box, how to remove and treat your flowers and even how to fold back up the box for easy disposal. Once treated and in water the flowers should be stored in a cool room, out of direct sunlight and away from a direct heat source. However, these are fresh flowers with a shelf life, you will beed to dedicate time the week they arrive to completing your certificate designs.

  • Yes of course and we would get many hobby florists choosing this option, if you do not require certification you will not need to submit evidence of your designs. You will however still be part of the program to learn the specific designs in the program.

  • Yes we have many overseas students, we facilitate all time zones and allow you a discount to supply your own flowers, see more information here on our overseas bookings

  • We are the only fully commercial flower school in Ireland dedicated to training florists. We are not affiliated to any shop, wholesaler or retail outlet, so we can give you solely independent advice on all aspects of floristry without any conflict of interest.

  • Yes you can get funding through a few different channels for our courses, drop us an email and we will send you on the relative paperwork. Funding is depending on your personal circumstances.

  • We encourage all our students who have completed Module 1 2 & 3 to apply for work experience in a flower shop or studio. We have a number of Flower Shops all over Ireland willing to take our students on work experience.

  • Kay's Flower School will be in contact the week your program is due to start to get you enrolled, and to get your sundry kit sent out to you.

  • Although we have had quite a few students do that and have built up very successful business, it is not what we would recommend for everyone. We would recommend that you gain some commercial experience in a flower shop or studio first. Although we can teach you a huge amount about the flower business, there is nothing like being on the floor and learning too.

  • Once you are a student of Kay's Flower School and completed all 4 Modules, you are eligible to join out Mentorship Program/ Bloom Studio (FREE of charge) . This is perfect for those pursuing their own business without ever having worked within the industry.

  • We advise you to have a Large notebook and pen, poly pockets/ A4 Plastic sleeves for taking notes whilst watching your tutorials. You will need to purchase buckets but Janette will advise more about these and links on where to buy them wholesale.

  • This is a concern of many of our students, but it is only with working and handling flowers that you will remember their names, we will also help you with a few word association tricks, but we guarantee that you will be able to name and identify a great variety of flowers once you have completed the course. As long as you have a good understanding of the English Language you will be well able to participate in the courses.

  • We can have a very diverse group of students on each program, we have had a student who celebrated her 80th Birthday with us on our Module 1 Flower Arranging Course, and we have had students who are early school leavers. We have never had a student who felt “out of place “on our course because of their age. A career in floristry has no age barriers you just need to love flowers.

  • Once you have decided to enroll on any of our courses it is important to either ring or email us with your preferred date immediately (to check availability) We will then contact you and let you know if there is availability on your desired course. Once we confirm an available place it is important to send on a non-refundable booking fee of €400 to confirm your booking or you can pay your booking fee here . Places on all our courses are only confirmed on receipt of the relevant booking fee. Once we receive your booking fee we will either text or email you a receipt to confirm your booking.
